Bea Johnson’s Zero Waste Home* has been an influential book for many of us here at UT Sustainability and UT Recycling. Bea Johnson and her family have managed to reduce their trash to just one quart-size jar per year and have shown in the process that sustainability measures can vastly improve one’s quality of life. To truly understand how to create a Zero Waste home, we recommend reading Bea Johnson’s entire book, but since we know you probably have a lot of reading to do already, here’s a good starting point: The Five R’s of Zero Waste, only in this order.
